When I stepped into the world of agents, I found myself managing dozens of conversations, each with its own role, personality, and capabilities. One is great at planning, another writes code, and another specializes in editing or reviewing. On paper, it sounds incredibly powerful, and it is. But in practice, it also means an endless coordination effort.
The real work is not just about giving an instruction and leaning back. Everything turns into a loop: What did the agent do? What was the outcome? Is the task really finished, or does it only look that way? Should I step in? Should I break the task into smaller parts? These questions turn into a constant cycle in my mind.
And that cycle keeps repeating itself.
That is why I do not think we are at the point of full autonomy yet. Yes, I can plan tasks and automate workflows, but at the end of the day, I still have to come back and check. Sometimes they get stuck at a certain point, and sometimes they do only half the job and still say “completed” with a great deal of confidence. In those moments, I can feel just how far we still are from true autonomy.
For me, the real value of agents is not in handing off the work and walking away completely. It lies in taking on a new role within the process.
The more I interact with them, the more I feel that my own abilities are evolving too. Managing agents no longer feels like a purely technical task. It feels more like being an orchestra conductor who knows exactly when each instrument should come in. Before this process, I did not have much real practice with project management. I knew the words, but not the rhythm. I only learned how a project should begin, how a roadmap should be followed, and how requirements should be clarified by experiencing that “mess” over and over again from the inside.
Now, while building with agents, I experience these problems in their rawest form. I make mistakes, miss details, trust the wrong output, or realize that I left a task too vague. But through all of this, I am learning how to stay in flow.
And that is critical. Because the moment I lose that flow and start trusting agents blindly, I can fall into a dark hole. They can look extremely confident while heading in the wrong direction, and if I follow them without questioning, I end up wasting time instead of saving it.
That is exactly why this process feels so valuable to me.
